Peter Gabriel Biography

Peter Gabriel was one of the founding members of Genesis when it was formed in 1965. Peter Gabriel left Genesis in 1975 to pursue an idiosyncratic but highly successful solo career. He initially drew from the art-rock sounds of his time with Genesis but increasingly infused worldbeat and extremely dissonant rock, and eventually some R&B, into his sound. Gabriel has always surrounded himself with first-class producers (Bob Ezrin, Robert Fripp, Daniel Lanois, Steve Lillywhite) who could sonically push the envelope into new frontiers. Thematically Gabriel's lyrics progressively abandoned the journey through the dark side of the psyche in favor of reaching out with awareness-elevating sentiment.
