Nirvana Information
| Nirvana's
leader Kurt Cobain helped invent what the media eventually dubbed
"grunge" in the early 1990s by merging punk and '70s
heavy rock. What set him apart from his similarly inclined Seattle
peers was his ability to craft haunting melodies and incisive
lyrics to go along with the monstrous riffs and pounding rhythms.
Nirvana changed rock music and popular culture almost
single-handedly when grunge finally put AOR and hair-metal to rest
and inspired a generation of fans and musicians. The band's reign
ended tragically and far too quickly when Cobain committed suicide
in 1994. |
